Optical quality control offers every industry the opportunity to inspect products without contact and therefore independently of the operator. Digitised testing using software enables simple and seamless documentation of the measured values and relieves the workload on employees by automating quality assurance.
In over 25 years of company history, we have been able to support customers from a wide range of industries in their production processes. Today we take a look at an application from glass production.
Task
A large glass manufacturer is faced with the challenge of checking glass panes after washing for the smallest defects, such as scratches, inclusions, interlayer bubbles and chipping at the grinding edges. Due to the large quantities involved, this inspection is carried out during ongoing production at a speed of up to 10 metres per minute.
Inspection concept
Several high-precision optical sensors are used to fulfil the high accuracy requirements. This ensures 100 % control over the entire test width and length. The sensors monitor the glass panes on the belt and supply the data to the powerful imess software, which checks the recorded scans for defects. If a defect is detected, a signal or position information is sent to the customer’s control system for sorting damaged glass panes.
Advantages
The intelligent concept achieves a 100% inspection of all glass panes. The smallest defects that are barely visible to the eye are detected by the powerful hardware and sorted out by the customer. In addition to the complex measurement technology for defect detection, the intuitive imess software offers a clear visualisation of the results and also includes additional functions such as the interface to the system control as well as test plan management and password-protected parameters. Customised storage and statistical analysis of the measured values round off the system.
In the joint evaluation of the solution, the customer emphasised the flexibility and precise adaptation of the software to its requirements very positively. It enables product quality to be guaranteed and protects against high costs due to recalls and complaints.
